yet another update

The short story: my blog is officially on hiatus until… probably sometime in mid-to-late March.

The longer story: we don’t get to move to Clearlake. So much for our amazing lake-front house with its own dock. (Seriously. We were supposed to sign a lease for such a house tomorrow morning.) Giant kerfuffle at the rehab company I’m employed with. Boring details, the end result of which is that I won’t be working at the nursing home in Clearlake, where I would only be getting 15-20 hours per week (yikes). Instead I’ll be working half time at a facility in Sacramento and half time at a facility in Williams… 60 miles north of Sacramento. (I wish I was joking. We’ll live partway between, but the commuting might kill me.) So we have to start house hunting again — sorry, I have to start house hunting again, because the BF is otherwise occupied — which means chasing down letting agents and filling out applications and singlehandedly exhausting the post office’s stock of money orders for rental applications. All on a rapidly approaching deadline because our current lease is set to expire in 3 weeks. Because we thought we’d have a house to move into by then. All while I’m still (single-handedly) packing up our house. We don’t even have kids but already I understand why so many families have a stay-at-home parent. There’s too much to do if you’re both working full time.

The last few weeks my fitness efforts have been lackluster and sporadic, and my food intake hasn’t been ideal. But I’m choosing not to guilt myself over it because everything is crazy right now and is going to continue to be crazy for the next few weeks. Thus the blog hiatus — I have nothing in particular to report health or fitness related, plus I need to focus on moving house.

Another quick update

We found a house to rent and will sign the lease on Friday. This week I have to pack our apartment up, by myself because the BF is out of town for 2 weeks for training for his new job. I won’t be blogging this week… Too much going on right now.

In other news, my 31st birthday was Saturday (22/2 and 2/22, works both ways!) and I ran in my first 5k! It was almost 70 degrees, sunny, and clear. It was nice to run a different route than usual but it also felt longer because it was unfamiliar terrain. I had a few “pace buddies” (as I thought of them) from the start, people running about the same pace as me. I ran straight through without walking, which was my goal. It was a super slow run for me, 40:09. Afterwards I ate a bunch of orange slices and lay on the AstroTurf for a awhile soaking up the sunshine. Overall a very good experience and I’m looking forward to my next 5k in 5 weeks’ time!

quick update

Hey everybody,

I haven’t died, it’s just been crazy busy around here as the BF finishes up his current job and prepares to go to San Diego for training for his new job, all while trying to squeeze in visits to Clearlake to see houses and packing up to move. We’re going again tomorrow, I think. Does anyone actually like moving? Anyway, I miss catching up on all your blogs and updating mine, hopefully I’ll have more time soon.

Day 155: hmm

I didn’t workout today. I spent all day running errands and I got almost 10000 steps in without even taking a walk or going for a run. It was that kind of day. I can’t wait till we’ve moved and we get back into a routine.

In other news, it’s officially the beginning of the end of the end (got that?) for my much loved jeep. It’s leaking fluids (oil and transmission fluid at the least, maybe others) and today the mechanic (who I like a lot) said that with over 200,000 miles it’s not worth fixing these leaks or any other problems that come up. So at this point I’m just driving it into the ground. Sad.

Day 154: rolling with the punches

So there I was, ready to cross the street at the apartment complex about ready to start my run, when my phone rang. If I’d already started running I wouldn’t have answered, but I hadn’t started running yet, so I glanced at the number. And I’m so glad I did. It was the letting agent I’ve been trying to speak to for the last 2 1/2 weeks about renting a house in Clearlake. She wanted to know if I could be there in 3 hours as there had been a cancellation and she could squeeze me in for a showing.

So… I turned right around, went home, changed my clothes, and drove to Clearlake. I then spent all day being shuttled around to houses all over lake county. I got home about 8pm. It has been a very long and exhausting day. It’s barely 9pm and it is my bedtime.

So, no exercise today. Having a place to live is pretty high on the list of priorities. Sad though, I was looking forward to today’s run.

Also, Clear Lake (for which Clearlake is named, obvs) is gorgeous. Wow. Photos after we move. 🙂

Day 153: DOMS

The real kicker of DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) is that it gets worse before it gets better. It’s different for different people but for me it usually peaks at day 2. It is day 2. I woke up this morning and could barely move.

So… I did not go to the gym today. I could barely stand let alone do a squat. So I walked (uh, hobbled… If you’ve been backpacking you probably know the hiker hobble) to the library instead. Definitely better than nothing and I’m proud of myself for getting out and moving within my ability level. Which, today, is significantly restricted, but still.

Day 152: running, rain, and recess

Thank you, 1-leg RDLs, for reminding me that I have hamstrings. Holy mother of Elvis, my hammies are sore after yesterday’s lifting, which is what I deserve, really, for taking 2 weeks off from lifting.

I was so sore this morning that I tried to talk myself out of running, but it didn’t work. I have to be ready for my 5k on the 22nd and that means 3 runs per week. So off I went. Very, very slowly. It wasn’t my slowest 30-minute run but it came pretty close. I knew straight off that this run would be a challenge; my thighs objected immediately. As I went along, they loosened up enough to at least be able to finish 30 minutes.
